One of the great spiritual books of all time I found on my daughter’s bookshelf. It’s Dr. Seuss’s “Oh, the Places You’ll Go” and on the opening pages he wrote: “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.” How true! Today is your day, you are off to great places, you’re off and away! You do have the choice each and every day and one way to create the day your desire to live is to build positive momentum in the morning.
Whether you wake from the sun, snooze or alarm the first few minutes of your waking time can be one of the most powerful factors that can set the tone for the rest of the day. Do you greet the day with “good morning God!” or “good God, it’s morning!”? Either sentiment will bring you a different experience, either greatness or something less. Choose to see each day as the blessing that it is. Begin each day with powerful rituals for well-being and success. Begin each day with affirmative prayer, bless the day, your life, the world. Set the tone for greatness by asking a question that inspires and stretches your mind like “what is the ideal vision of myself and my life today?” This and similar questions will get your brain excited and into the “learning mode” which creates new synaptic connections. Answer the question of your ideal vision with images, with smells and sounds. Allow this multi-media picture to be etched in your mind’s eye and rehearse it throughout the day.
Fall in love with breakfast. Breakfast eaters have better lives. Students who eat breakfast are more successful, breakfast eaters better manage their weight, have lower incidence of heart disease, tend to be more productive and happy. A power-filled breakfast will feed your head the necessary building blocks for creating and sustaining inspiring thinking and a positive vibrations al around you. Go for balance in breakfast and set your table with lean proteins (eggs, tofu, fish, legumes, lean poultry) and complex carbohydrates (oatmeal, whole grain waffles, whole grain cereals and toast) and brain and body boosting fats from nuts and seeds and your ready for bringing your A game to your day!
Embrace a morning of sweating. Whatever makes you move..run, bike, walk, swim, lift, pull or stretch any and all of these rituals done daily will change your life. People who move in the morning enjoy greater energy and outlook the rest of the day. They burn more fat; they think more positive, they are more peaceful. You will be better at living your life. Begin where you are. Commit to moving 10..15 or 20 minutes a day and build from there. Release the punitive association with exercise and usher in the play!
Dr. Seuss says “you’re off to great places, today is your day-your mountain is waiting, so get on your way!” Wellness, like peace, love and kindness is contagious. The daily practice of inspiring and loving self care will support you in building the life that you desire. Begin now!
